Cultural Leaders Symposium

Crucible Theatre, Sheffield

30 March 2012

The symposium is designed to support cultural organisations with their strategic thinking and planning about social media.  It will be relevant to Chief Executives, senior members of staff and others who directly engage with the public.

The symposium involves a series of case studies and presentations from the following inspirational speakers:

'Opening Up Your Organisation' by Dan Kirby, Techdept

Daniel Kirby examines how he builds successful businesses using open methodologies inspired by web culture with his clients, peers and team.

'Authenticity and the Limits of Social Media'  by Jake Orr - The Younger Theatre

Digital native Jake Orr challenges our assumptions about social media as just another marketing tool. http://www.ayoungertheatre.com/

'Total Customer Experience Starts Online' by Kimb Jones, Barnsley NHS

Kimb Jones explains why social media tools can improve the customer journey, but their experience doesn’t end with marketing.

'Building Digital Capability' by Hannah Goraya, Digital Inclusion Researcher, Sheffield Hallam University / Barnsley MBC

Hannah Goraya’s research identifies that growing the digital confidence of audiences involves building the digital skills of the whole organisation.

The case studies will be used to demonstrate the value of social media to their respective businesses and how businesses using social media can strengthen and deepen its relationship with its audience .  This event will be hosted by Emma Cheshire and Jag Goraya, who are part of the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership Creative Digital Industries sector group.

Delegate costs:

The symposium has been funded through the Cultural Leadership Programme and  places are free but limited to two participants per organisation.  Please book your place early to avoid disappointment.

Delegates who do not cancel by 12pm a week in advance will incur a 100% cancellation fee (for delegates with free places this charge is £50). Also for non-attendance on the day the above cancellation charges will apply.
